Jayan was born in India and moved to England several years ago with no previous qualifications; however he was extremely keen to gain knowledge, experience and a nationally recognised qualification. Whilst working as a care assistant at a local care home for residents who are profoundly deaf, mute and suffer communication problems, he approached Beneast Training. Jayan’s aim was to become the manager of the home as he felt he had a lot to offer his employer and the residents.

After one of Beneast’s specialist assessors visited Jayan at the home, it was decided to offer Jayan an NVQ Level 2 in Elderly Care (through Train to Gain funding) as English was not his first language and he was keen to gain the knowledge the vocational part of the qualification would give him.

After completing his NVQ 2, Jayan had additional literacy and numeracy support before progressing onto an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Adult Care. He also achieved nationally recognised qualifications in Health and Safety and First Aid.

Jayan comments, “I feel motivated and supported by Beneast and my employer. Without the help of Beneast I wouldn’t be in this position today. They gave me a fantastic opportunity to rise through the ranks, gain the qualifications I needed and succeed in my career.”

Upon successful completion of his Advanced Apprenticeship Jayan progressed onto and achieved a Level 4 Leadership & Management qualification. Jayan has not stopped yet and continues to develop himself and is currently undertaking his ITQ Level 2. Jayan is also continuing to develop his sector knowledge and is undertaking a Level 5 Diploma in Health & Social Care.

Jayan has achieved his ambition of becoming manager of the home as he had hoped at the start of his development. Jayan told us “I have gained confidence and the support and guidance has allowed me to believe in myself and to go for opportunities that I would have once not even contemplated.”

“I would definitely encourage other people to take on apprentices as they are a real benefit to whatever company they join. I was lucky that I was able to climb the career ladder quickly, but I was only able to do that due to the professional way Beneast went about their training with me.”
