I have completed my Higher apprenticeship with the AAT qualification

Who do you work for and what do they do?
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, they are part of the NHS trusts which includes Preston Royal Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital.

Why did you choose to become an apprentice?
I wanted to jump into work and gain real experience in a finance department whilst still gaining a professional qualification.

What does your day in your work life involve?
My day to day work life involves meeting with budget holders, answering email queries, analysing data, using our ledger systems to interpret and maintain the transactional entries and reporting to senior managers on budget variances.

What do you enjoy and what is the best thing about being an apprentice?
The best thing about being an apprentice is the support my work showed me by allowing me time to complete my studies and being able to learn from experienced and knowledgeable colleagues.

What are your career plans and what would you like to be doing in 5 years’ time?
My next step is to become a fully qualified accountant, I am currently studying CIMA; and then work way up the career ladder with an ultimate goal of becoming a Finance Director.

What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement was winning the Regional Apprentice of the Year at the National Apprentice Awards.

I have two cats named Steve and Carl

What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone thinking about becoming an apprentice?
Go for it! Speak to your employer before you start to understand the level of support that they can give you, as studying and working full time can be difficult.
